Delivering the UNSW 2013 Jack Beale lecture on the Global Environment, renowned academic, science broadcaster and environmental activist David Suzuki challenged a packed audience to stand up to what he called the ‘wilful blindness’ of governments and corporations ignoring the dangers of global warming. In a wide-ranging critique of unsustainable economic growth Dr Suzuki warned of turbulent times ahead for environment unless humans applied their unique ability as a species to foresight, to plan and envision a future.
"The strong message of turbulent times ahead for environment contained in David’s lecture reminded us of the ever increasing importance of Science education, advocacy, and of educating the policy-makers of the future." commented Professor Graciela Metternicht, Institute of Environmental Studies Director and co-host of the Saturday evening event.
