The Perth Congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists in September was well attended by CWI staff.
Prof Andy Baker led a team including Prof Ian Acworth, Prof Andy Baker, A/Prof Bryce Kelly, Dr Wendy Timms, Dr Martin Andersen, Dr Gregoire Mariethoz, Dr Richard Crane, Dr Mark Cuthbert, Dr Gabriel Rau, Dr Hamid Roshan, Dr Ander Guinea, Dr Andrew McCallum, Dr Hoori Ajami, Dr Steve Bouzalakos, Dr Alessandro Comunian, Dr Sanjeev Jha, Dr Dioni Cendón, Mr Landon Halloran, Mr Juan Carlos Castilla, Mark Peterson and Mr Tony Woo.
The GEIF project to establish long term groundwater monitoring at various sites is approaching completion and the GEIF team presented a trade exhibition from which information on the various sites could be disseminated. Visitors to the stand could log on to the GEIF web site developed by staff from ANU to inspect real-time groundwater level monitoring results. The Fowlers Gap site has also been developed using GEIF funds and an additional web site developed by the Water Research Laboratory team was also on display.
Andy Baker convened a session on palaeoclimatic data from speleothems and Wendy Timms convened a session on aquitard property determinations. There were invited presentations (Key Notes) from Andy Baker on speleothem research, Gabriel Rau on the use of heat as a tracer in groundwater and Ian Acworth on the completion of the Groundwater Education Investment Fund (GEIF) project .
Papers delivered by CWI staff also included the following:
