| Cotton industry groundwater workshop |

The UNSW Water Research Laboratory and School of Civil & Environmental Engineering conducted the recent series of groundwater workshops held by Cotton Catchment Communities CRC in NSW and Queensland.
The workshop series, held throughout cotton growing areas, has been aimed at increasing the knowledge among water users of how groundwater systems work and the management of those systems. The workshop series and associated publications are an initiative of the Cotton Catchment Communities Cooperative Research Centre project "Natural Resource Management delivery in the Australian Cotton lndustry'' as part of the Sustainable Industries Initiative Programme funded through the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
Held in seven locations across NSW and QLD, the workshops were attended by more than 100 participants representing growers, consultants, extension offices, catchment bodies and local councils. Workshop content was developed and delivered by the Water Research Laboratory in consultation with the Cotton Catchment Communities CRC. Representatives from CMAs, Catchment Organisations and Local Government and cotton extension officers also participated.
The groundwater workshops were hailed as a great success by Rob Welsh of Cotton CRC/NSW DPI, who was impressed by the number of growers that embraced the opportunity to learn more about groundwater systems.
