CWI researchers have received the Science Excellence award for research presented at the 2010 Australian Cotton Conference in August.

The prizewinning presentation, authored by Dr Martin Andersen (UNSW CWI) and co-authored by Dr Karina Meredith (ANSTO), Dr Wendy Timms (UNSW CWI) and Professor Ian Acworth (UNSW CWI), was entitled "Investigation of δ18O and δ2H in the Namoi River catchment - surface water/groundwater interactions".

The work involved measurement of the amounts of certain isotopes in rainfall, surface water and groundwater samples collected at various times between 1998 and 2007 in order to understand patterns of water movement.

The study demonstrated measurements of these isotopes in surface water and groundwater samples are valuable for understanding hydrological processes such as recharge and river aquifer interactions within semi-arid catchments.

The research poster presentaion will be displayed at the Cotton CRC Science forum to be held on Tuesday 26th to Thursday 28th October.
